Mr. Nelson Woodson Obituary

Nelson Woodson was Born in Lufkin, Texas on December 25, 1933, to the late Idella B. and
Eugene Woodson. He transitioned to heaven peacefully on April 26, 2023.

Having been born on Christmas day, Nelson enjoyed celebrations and spending joyful times with
family and friends. He also enjoyed fishing, playing pool, traveling, and walks in the park.

In 1959, he met the love of his life, Elean W. Phlegm Woodson. To this union, five children were
born, Ricky, Donald, Danny, Vernon, and Shirley. He also had three step-children, Willie Ray
Phlegm, Ruby Morgan, and Charles Phlegm.

Nelson was a hard-working man who believed in taking care of his family. He was employed by
Baxter Construction Co. for 40 years before his retirement.

Nelson faced many personal challenges throughout his lifetime, including the lack of formal
education, serious health challenges, and the painful deaths of loved ones. However, he persevered
courageously through them all. During one of his health challenges, he accepted Christ as his
personal Savior and Lord.

God was gracious to Nelson and filled his latter years with peace and joy. Having mellowed from
many of life’s lessons, he cherished times spent with his children and grandchildren. In 2021, he
moved into the Tarrytowne Estates Retirement Community where he enjoyed the camaraderie and
quickly developed treasured friendships. He was also well-known and admired throughout the
retirement community for his sense of style and immaculately pressed jeans and slacks.

Nelson was preceded in death by: his parents, Idella and Eugene; his life-long beloved, Elean; sons,
Ricky and Vernon; step-sons, Willie Ray and Charles; and siblings, Della Mae Woodson, Clara
Ferguson, Annie Turner, and Gus Woodson. He leaves to cherish his memory: his children, Donald
(Cathy), Danny (Detria), Shirley (Derrick); stepdaughter, Ruby; brother, Lenwood Woodson;
sisters, Lila Edwards, Hazel McKinley, and Linda Adolph; 15 grandchildren; 16 greatgrandchildren;
3 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends. He will be greatly
missed.
