Larry Anthony Frazier was born on March 30, 1954 to Yvonne Frazier in Houston, Texas. He was baptized at St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Third Ward under the teaching of Reverend M. M. Malone.
Larry became a lover of music at a very early age. He first played in the St. John MBC band, under the guidance of Reverend Simpson. His love for the trumpet came when he played in the band at Miller Middle School, under the guidance of Mr. Harrison. He would nurture this gift, this love as he continued on to play in the Marching Band at Sterling High School. He graduated in 1973, earning a four year Music Scholarship to Texas Southern University. While at TSU, he played with the Ocean of Soul Band, graduating in 1976. He would later play in the Houston Jazz Ensemble Band.
After graduating from TSU, he became a Special Education Teacher for the Houston Independent School District. He briefly left HISD and began teaching General Education Classes at the Sharpstown Center. He returned to HISD in 1991 and retired in 2017, after teaching for twenty-six years.
Larry’s passing is preceded by his grandparents, two aunts and three uncles.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Yvonne James; sister, Portia Fonkeng; brother, Kenneth James, two nieces, five nephews, one aunt, two uncles and a host of extended family and friends.
