Eladio Cruz, originally from the Guerrero region of Mexico, passed away leaving behind a legacy of quiet strength, resilience, and deep love that will never be forgotten. Though he spent his early years alone and navigating life independently, he eventually made his way to the United States, where he spent most of his life. Despite the distance, he never lost his connection to his roots, returning to his hometown just often enough to remain warmly recognized by the townspeople who never forgot him.
Throughout his life, Eladio worked tirelessly in many roles—from a busboy cleaning tables to custodial work in hospitals—before eventually finding his place at the Houston Chronicle, a job he took pride in and truly enjoyed. He wasn’t a man of wealth, but he was rich in character, laughter, and love.
Eladio was someone you’d be glad to meet—funny, outgoing, and always respectful. His charm and warmth left lasting impressions on those around him. To his son, he was a constant presence, never perfect but always trying, always loving in his own way. He looked out for him fiercely, teaching life lessons through stories, laughter, and even his flaws.
He had a deep love for music, always playing a variety of songs, yet keeping a special rotation of favorites close to heart. One of the most cherished memories is of him at Christmas—whether sober or not—tenderly building a little home for our Baby Jesus, which he would take down around his children’s birthdays, a tradition filled with meaning and love.
Eladio lived a life full of stories—some funny, some hard—but all memorable and rich with experience. Those stories, and the lessons they held, remain with those who knew and loved him.
He will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and always loved.
