Born on December 17, 1982, in Selma, Alabama, Chablis Nicole Reeves was an exceptional daughter to her parents, Brenda Reeves and Reuben Byars. In 1988, she relocated to Houston, Texas, with her mother, where she began shaping her identity and establishing her foundation in the lives of those she touched. Nicole graduated from Alief Elsik High School alongside her two best friends, Tonya “T-Town” Washington and Kandyce Ingram, with whom she shared over 30 years of friendship with.
Nicole leaves behind her beloved son, Christian D. Gladney, whom she shared with her lifelong friend and partner, Arthur “Dee” Gladney, as well as her four siblings: Nakisa "Nikki" Jackson, Tamika Reeves, Dominique Sherie Mark, and Malik Mark.
However, Nicole was more than a daughter, mother, sister, and friend. She was a cheerleader, a supportive confidante, a skilled chef, and a creative artist. Her touch was soft and gentle, yet powerfully strong. She was a beacon of light for the lost and a shining ray of hope for the hopeless. She didn’t need a platform to house and to cater to those in need of nourishment. All she needed was the heart of an angel, filled with compassion, understanding, and patience for the world around her.
Nicole loved listening to music, singing, drawing, and writing poetry in her spare time. She was also a devoted lover of the beach. Wherever there was water, you would surely find Nicole with a radiant smile on her face, glowing from within, living fully in the present moment, and teaching others to do the same. Beyond her grounding in nature, Nicole’s adventurous spirit loved to travel. She never needed a reason, nor did she seek permission. Guided by faith and inner strength, she pursued her goals fearlessly and beautifully achieved them.
“That Girl Nicki” was more than an angel to us; she was and remains a spectacular, extraordinary soul with a genuine, loving spirit and a heart of gold. Today, we celebrate the life and legacy of Chablis Nicole Reeves, honoring a magnificent mother, a terrific daughter, a wonderful sister, a thoughtful friend, a fabulous mentor, a sensational superhero, but most of all, a PHENOMENAL WOMAN!
