The word spread rapidly throughout Houston, Texas seventy-five years ago when a precious baby girl was born to Mr. and Mrs. Ben and Mary Louise Carter. They lovingly named her Caroline Ann Carter but called her Carolyne.
Carolyne accepted Christ as her Lord and savior at an early age and was baptized as well. Through the years Carolyne has had several affiliations with Baptist churches from Wiergate to Houston, Texas, until 1985 when she settled as a member of Gospel Way Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Reverend C.R. Williams. Carolyne faithfully served on the Usher board for 25 years where she served as President over both the Adult and Junior Usher Boards and she helped with the Youth Department. Carolyne remained united with Gospel Way Missionary Baptist Church until she transitioned.
Carolyne attended public school in the Houston Independent School District, graduating from Booker T. Washington High School. She furthered her education at Texas Southern University (TSU), University of Houston (U of H) and Houston Community College (HCC). While attending TSU, Carolyne was a member of the Debate Team. She had a tremendous passion for drama, debating and public speaking. She also developed a love for sewing and upholstering while making crafty items. Carolyne completed college and obtained her Certification as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) and worked at several local hospitals in the Houston area (Jefferson Davis, MD Anderson, St. Anthony’s Catholic and St. Joseph Hospital). She also, had a passion for education, which lead her to becoming an English teacher at Hartman Middle School. She later went on to join the United States Postal Service where she was employed for 35 years, and Continental Airlines for 15 years. She was blessed to have retired from both companies in 2009.
Carolyne was a member of the Order of the Eastern Stars for 42 years. She was currently under the Ahiman Rezon Independence Supreme Council, which she resides as Grand Matron over the Guiding Light #3 Grand Chapter, covered by Lords of King David- Grand Lodge. She served under her brother, the Late Grand Master, Donnie Carter, Sr.
On Monday, September 18, 2023, Carolyne found perfect peace as she fell asleep in Jesus’ arms, surrounded by her loving family.
