In Loving Memory of Bettie: A Beloved Mother, Sister and Grandmother
Bettie was a remarkable woman who lived a fulfilling life for 76 years. Her passing on December 31, 2023, was a great loss to her family and community. Born to Marion and Woodson Thomas in Alton, Texas on August 27, 1947, Bettie was preceded in death by her sister, Lila Fontenot and brothers: Reginald Thomas, Morris Thomas and Roland Thomas.
Also affectionately called Sparkle, a name given by her mother, she lived up to her name because she shined like no other. However, her favorite name, Nana, was given to her by her adoring grandchildren. Bettie was a kind and loving person with a giving spirit. She worked as a dietary chef with the Hermann Memorial Hospital system for over 20 years and continued to volunteer her time after retiring. Dedicated to the Lord since 1985, she was an active and devoted member of the Christian Life Church, led by Pastor DuWayne Turnbow.
Bettie's legacy lives on through her devoted family. She is survived by her sons: Rodney Thomas, Kelvin Fuller and Joseph Fuller. Grandchildren: Meagan Green, Kalai Fuller-Bell, Jade Fuller, Joseph Fuller, Deandre Thomas, Dominique Fuller, Kiiana Fuller, Priscilla Fuller and Destinee Thomas. She also leaves behind great-grandchildren: Journee Jenkins, Dnyla Mccullum, Kamani Bell and Amir Fuller. Her sisters: Debra Jarrett, Gwendolyn Washington, Sandra Harris and Marion (Rita) Thomas, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will also miss her dearly.
Bettie was a fierce protector of those she loved and cared deeply for her family and community. She had a passion for fashion and always dressed to impress. Her joyful spirit and willingness to help others will always be remembered. She will be greatly missed, especially for her cooking, bright smile and warm hugs.
