Bernice Neal was born on April 12, 1937, in Jackson, Mississippi, to the loving union of James and Rachel Cook. At an early age, she accepted Christ into her heart, beginning a lifelong journey of faith and devotion.
Her path in life brought her to Houston, Texas, where she first united in marriage with Ethelway Robinson. Later, she was blessed to find love again with Mr. Murphy L. Neal.
One of Bernice’s greatest joys was becoming a devoted and faithful member of Greater St. Matthew Baptist Church, where she served with her whole heart until the very end. A God-fearing woman, Bernice could always be found in the house of the Lord—lifting others in prayer, offering kind words, and living out her deep faith through service and compassion.
Bernice had a special way of making everyone feel seen and loved. Whether through a heartfelt phone call or a thoughtful card, she made it her mission to remind people how cherished they were. Her love knew no bounds, and her light touched all who had the blessing of knowing her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Murphy Neal; her dear parents, James and Rachel Cook; her sister, Elizabeth Henry; brothers, John Albert Pugh, James Wesley Cook, Willie Cook, George Cook, and Robert Cook; and her grandson, Jerry D. Foster.
Bernice’s legacy lives on through her five loving children: Clifton Cook (Linzetta), Elaine Horace (T.C.), Johnny Robinson, Julean Weyren (Mike), and James Cook; her beloved sister, Ruby Lee Cooks; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and friends.
